A Cotswold village inn with a tradition of hospitality dating back more than 700 years where you are assured of a warm welcome. This medieval hostelry, one of the ten oldest inns in the country, is set opposite the church and village green in the heart of the picturesque Cotswold village of Shipton-Under-Wychwood. Steeped in history, the hotel is full of charm and character with log fires, real ales and delicious food. It is perfectly located for exploring the Cotswolds, with Blenheim Palace and the historic towns of Cheltenham, Witney and Oxford nearby.
It was founded in the 14th century by the monks of Bruern Abbey, to house pilgrims and as a hospice for the poor and needy. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century the Crown seized the hotel and Queen Elizabeth I later used it as a royal hunting lodge.
Subsequently it was given to the village on condition that it became an inn with the proceeds being used to help the poor. Early in the 20th century the inn passed into private ownership and was named the Shaven Crown in homage to its founders. Through the centuries it has maintained its charm and many original features remain, including the 14th century gateway and the double-braced roof structure of the Great Hall.
The Shaven Crown has eight en-suite double or twin bedrooms overlooking the medieval courtyard and village green. Each room is unique, but all abound with charm and character, especially the Old Chapel Room super king size bed and vaulted ceiling. Please note we have three rooms which are street facing - The Crown Room, The Ascott Room and The Pump Room (ground floor).
We have a large room which is situated on the ground floor with suitable access for those who wish to avoid too many steps (this can also be used as a family room). Our basic room, the Crown Room, has new furnishings, however the en-suite and carpet have not yet been updated. Additional beds and travel cots are available on prior request.

Conditions générales
Arrival and Departure
Rooms are available from 3:00pm on the day of arrival and we ask that you please vacate your room by 11:00am on the day of departure. However, if you require an earlier check-in or later check-out, then we will always endeavour to oblige, so please mention at the time of booking.
Children
A number of rooms will accommodate a baby-cot at a charge of £15.00 per cot per night, excluding breakfast.
Additional Beds
A number of rooms will accommodate a z-bed at a charge at £25.00 per z-bed per night, excluding breakfast.
Car Parking
There is ample free parking available within our own grounds and vehicles are left at the owner's risk.
Smoking
Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hotel, however an area has been made available within the grounds. An automatic cleaning charge of £200.00 will be made if any guest is found to have smoked in their room and charged directly to the credit/debit/charge card used at the time of booking/checking-in.
Keys
Loss, damage or the non-return of room key(s) and/or fob(s) will incur a charge of £150.00 per key and fob. This will be charged directly to the credit/debit/charge card used at the time of booking/checking-in.
Damage
In the unlikely event of any damage to the hotel, then charges will be applied to the credit/debit/charge card given at the time of booking/checking-in. All charges will be supported by copy invoices, to which 15% will be added to cover administrative costs.
Conditions de paiement
All major Debit and Credit cards are accepted. We also accept cash, however the booking and all incidental charges must be guaranteed by a credit card.
Bookings made within 48 hours of arrival are subject to full pre-payment and are non-refundable. It may be required that deposits are requested at times, subject to the date of booking and number of rooms reserved.
Invoice payments must be received no later than 7 days after the date of invoice by either bank transfer, cheque, cash or credit card.

Cancellations
If cancelled/modified up to 2 days prior to the date of arrival, then charges will not apply. If cancelled/modified within this period or in the case of no-show(s), the total price of the reservation will be charged.
For Public Holiday(s) or bookings of four or more rooms, the cancellation/modification policy is 7 days prior to the date of arrival. If cancelled/modified within this period or in the case of no-show(s), the total price of the reservation will be charged.
