The Royal George

Known for its natural beauty, Appledore is loved by everyone; locals, tourists, walkers, and families alike. The Royal George stands at the heart of the village, in a prime position offering breathtaking views of the Taw and Torridge estuary. Located on Irsha Street, The Royal George is a five minute walk from Appledore’s historic quay, and a twenty minute walk to the beach, as well as being just a short ferry ride from beautiful Instow.

Having all been recently renovated, our four main building bedrooms and 6 Sailors Rest Annex bedrooms are light, contemporary and comfortable. All of them are en-suite, have Wi-Fi, a TV, and tea and coffee making facilities. We also have a number of cottages we manage available to book on a self catering basis.

We aim to deliver an exceptional à la carte menu of the highest quality, with innovative dishes and traditional classics. Cooked with care, all of our food uses the freshest seasonal and local ingredients. Featuring wines from the New World, Europe, and South Africa our wine menu has been specifically created to exquisitely compliment the food. We also have a selection of beers, ciders, and gins.

Terms & Conditions

Room Non-Availability: We would only cancel your booking if your accommodation was unavailable for reasons beyond our control. We would attempt to offer you alternative accommodation, however, if this was not available, then we would refund all monies paid by you. Our liability would not extend beyond this refund.

Room Arrival & Departure: Your accommodation is available to you from 4pm on the day of arrival, unless others arranged. Please be ready to leave your accommodation by 10am on the day of departure, unless otherwise arranged. If staying in our Main Building your bill for the accommodation and any extras or services taken during your stay is payable on departure. If you are staying in our Sailors Rest Annex or in any of our managed properties your bill is payable on check in. Please contact us if you are unsure.

Room Damage & Breakages: You are responsible for any breakages or damages which you or any member of your party cause to the accommodation or its contents. Please report these as soon as they occur. We do not normally charge for minor breakages, but we reserve the right to make a charge to the guests credit/debit card, or we may send you an invoice, for repair or making good, if the damage is significant.

Liability: We do not accept liability for damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any vehicles or possessions, unless proven to be caused by negligence by ourselves or our employees or contractors whilst acting in the course of their employment.

Payment Policy

For all bookings we require credit/debit card details to guarantee payment, we will take a 50% deposit at the time of booking.
If a booking is made within 48 hours of arrival full payment will be taken at the time of booking.
For all non refundable room bookings full payment will also be taken at the time of booking.
An email will be sent confirming the booking. The balance is due on departure. Prices are per room per night and include all taxes.

Cancellation Policy

In the unlikely event of your booking being cancelled or curtailed, we are entitled by law to charge for booked accommodation not taken up. If cancellation occurs within 14 days of arrival, a cancellation fee of £30 per room will be charged against the card details provided. Cancellation within 48 hours of arrival (or non-arrival or curtailment of stay) will result in the full amount being charged. We will endeavour to re-let the accommodation on your behalf and, if successful, we will refund the cost less the cancellation fee of £30. Deposits are non-returnable. If cancellation occurs within 14 days of arrival and we are unable to re-let the accommodation, to avoid any misunderstanding, we recommend that our guests insure against cancellation.
